What the studio gives you

Control. The light is the same at 9 in the morning as at 4 in the afternoon, whatever the weather is doing. There is a room to change in, a mirror, a kettle, and nobody walking past. Sessions run to time because nothing is waiting on the sun. For glamour work, where lighting is the whole point, and for Stefsetherealdream sessions, where privacy is non-negotiable, the studio is the default. Newborns and toddlers also do well in a warm, calm room.

What location gives you

Meaning, and space. A photograph in the garden where you got engaged, on the farm where you grew up, or on the street outside your first shop carries something a backdrop cannot. Children can run. Couples can walk. The light at the end of a highveld afternoon is unrepeatable indoors. Location suits family sessions, couples, personal branding with an environmental feel, and anyone who freezes in a studio.

The honest downsides

Location depends on weather. A storm moves the session, which is fine when you are flexible and frustrating when you are not. Location also means less privacy: parks have joggers. Wardrobe changes happen in a car or a bathroom. And a location outside Centurion adds a travel line to the quote. The studio, for its part, can feel formal to people who dislike being looked at, and it will never give you a horizon.

Session by session

  • Portraits, individual: either. Studio for headshots and formal work, location for character and story.
  • Family with young children: studio for babies and toddlers, location once they can run.
  • Couples: location, almost always. Walking and talking photographs better than standing.
  • Glamour: studio for the lighting and the production, with an outdoor look as an optional extra.
  • Boudoir, bridal boudoir and fine art: studio, for privacy. A private home or hotel suite can work by arrangement.
  • Personal branding: a mix, ideally: one clean studio look and one in your environment.

Why not both?

Standard and Family portrait sessions can split between the studio and a nearby Centurion location in the same booking, when time allows. A glamour session can add an outdoor look at golden hour after the studio work. Ask when booking; it is often the best answer.

Cost, briefly

Studio sessions carry no travel cost. Location sessions within Centurion also carry none. Further afield, travel is quoted with the package and shown up front. The quote estimator includes the travel line so there are no surprises.

What happens if it rains on a location session?

The session moves to the next open date that suits you, at no cost. Overcast without rain is usually kept: the light is soft and flattering.

Can boudoir be shot outside the studio?

By arrangement, in a private home or a hotel suite. It is never shot in a public place.

Is the studio wheelchair accessible?

Ask when booking and the session is planned around access. Location sessions can be chosen for flat, paved ground.
